As the Virginias Associated Press Broadcasters celebrates its 75th Diamond Jubilee, please consider honoring a colleague or mentor who has made important contributions to the Virginia broadcast industry by nominating them for the prestigious Robert Gallimore Distinguished Service Award.
The award, which has been given for the past 42 years, is named after the AP Chief of Bureau in Richmond between 1967 and 1985. It honors a Virginia broadcaster for outstanding service in the public interest; a broadcaster – active or retired – who exemplifies a commitment to journalism and reflects honorably on the news profession. The person may be involved in station ownership, management or the actual gathering and/or broadcasting of news.
Please email your nomination by Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2024, to David Foky, Gallimore Award Chair, at dfoky@nbc29.com, with a letter detailing your nominee's background and accomplishments, and why he/she should win the award.
The award is contingent on the honoree being able to attend the VAPB Awards 75th Anniversary Luncheon on Saturday, Mar. 23, 2024, at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. A family member may accept the award on the recipient’s behalf if the award is given posthumously. If the winner cannot commit to coming, his/her nomination will be considered for next year’s Award.
Thank you!
